FAQ
What is a charter school?
A charter school is an independently operated public school that is tuition-free and open to all students. Charter schools are granted greater flexibility in their educational programs and operations while remaining accountable for student achievement. Charter schools are authorized by a local school district or county office of education.
What makes your school different from traditional public schools?
The Classical Academies provide personalized learning options designed to meet the unique needs of each student. We combine academic excellence, character development, and strong relationships to create an environment where students are known, valued, and challenged. Families have access to flexible educational programs, caring credentialed teachers, and a supportive community focused on helping students thrive.
Is there a cost to attend your school?
No. Charter schools are tuition-free public schools. All students are invited to apply through our enrollment process.
Where do I need to live to attend your school?
Students are not required to live within a specific school district boundary to attend our schools. As public charter schools, we welcome all students from throughout San Diego County, subject to space availability and enrollment policies. Students do not need a district transfer to attend.
What is the registration process?
Families begin by completing an interest form. During the enrollment period, typically November to February, if the number of applications exceeds available space, a public lottery is held. Once a student is offered enrollment, families complete the registration process by submitting required documentation, including proof of age, residency, and immunization records. Mid-year enrollment is available, subject to availability. Our enrollment team is available to assist families throughout the process.
What does "classical" mean in The Classical Academies?
‘Classical' refers to our commitment to timeless educational principles that emphasize critical thinking, strong communication skills, character development, and a rich understanding of history, literature, science, and the arts. Our goal is to cultivate knowledgeable, thoughtful, and responsible citizens who are prepared for success in college, career, and life.
Are vaccinations required for enrollment?
As a public school, we follow all California state immunization requirements for school attendance. Students must provide documentation showing compliance with required vaccinations or qualify for a valid medical exemption. For the most current immunization requirements, families should visit the California Department of Public Health website or contact our enrollment team.
Can my child attend if they are not vaccinated?
California law requires students attending public schools to meet state immunization requirements unless they have a valid medical exemption. Families with questions about their specific situation are encouraged to contact our enrollment team for guidance.
My child has an IEP or 504 Plan. Can you accommodate their needs?
California law requires students attending public schools to meet state immunization requirements unless they have a valid medical exemption. Families with questions about their specific situation are encouraged to contact our enrollment team for guidance.
How do you support students with learning differences?
We believe every student can succeed when given the right support. Our credentialed teachers, counselors, and special education professionals work collaboratively with families to provide individualized support for students with diverse learning needs. Services are determined based on each student's unique educational plan and goals.
What role do parents play in their child's education?
Parents are valued partners in the educational journey. We believe students are most successful when schools and families work together. Depending on the selected educational program, parents will have varying levels of involvement, but all families are encouraged to stay engaged, communicate regularly with teachers, and support their child's learning and growth.
What is your Transitional Kindergarten policy?
Children who turn 4 on or before September 1, 2026, are eligible to enroll in Transitional Kindergarten (TK). TK provides a bridge between preschool and kindergarten, helping young learners develop the academic, social, and emotional skills needed for future success.
Do your high schools offer sports? Where do they practice and have games if you don't have your own facilities?
Yes. Our high schools offer a variety of CIF-sanctioned athletic programs and competitive sports opportunities. Practices and games are held at partner locations throughout the community, including local parks, athletic complexes, and shared-use facilities. This allows students to participate in a robust athletics program while benefiting from our personalized educational environment.
What are the school hours and transportation options?
School schedules vary by campus and program. Families can find specific bell schedules on each school's website or by contacting the school office. At this time, transportation services are limited, and families are generally responsible for transporting students to and from school.
