Escondido Legends Scholarships

Applications are due Thursday, June 15, 2023 at 5pm. 

The Escondido Legends Scholarship Program, made possible by Jack Raymond, provides $1,000 scholarships for eight seniors attending Escondido high schools. Each scholarship is linked to a the legend or legends who have contributed significantly to Escondido's history. Scholarship awardees will have demonstrated similar values and contributions to their community while maintaining high academic achievement. 

Honorariums are to be applied toward academic and higher education expenses such as college application fees, tuition, books, transportation and other related fees and equipment. 

The North County Education Foundation and the Escondido History Center have three main goals in the establishment of the Legends Scholarship Program:

  1. Honor and elevate Escondido’s Legends 
  2. Recognize the outstanding Seniors attending Escondido's high schools
  3. Promote a community-wide appreciation of the rich history of Escondido

Scholarship Applications

Musician and Community Leaders

Explanation of award: The honorarium will be given to a senior student attending a high school in Escondido who has participated in a variety of school activities and has demonstrated leadership throughout his or her high school years. Consideration will be given for a pronounced interest in pursuing music. Also, additional consideration will be given for participation in organizations pursuing human dignity. Volunteering in the community is also important.

Businessmen and Philanthropists

Explanation of award: The honorarium will be given to a senior student attending a high school in Escondido who has participated in a variety of school activities and has demonstrated leadership throughout his or her high school years. Additional consideration will be given for course work and involvement in business-related activities. Volunteering and community service are also important.

Marvin and Carilyn Gilbert

Educators and Civic Leaders

Explanation of award: The honorarium will be given to a senior student attending a high school in Escondido who has participated in a variety of school activities and has demonstrated leadership throughout his or her high school years. Consideration will be given for a pronounced interest in pursuing a career in education and for participation in high school athletics. Volunteering and community service are also important.

Helen Heller

Businesswoman and Philanthropist

Explanation of award: The honorarium will be given to a senior student attending a high school in Escondido who has participated in a variety of school activities and has demonstrated leadership throughout his or her high school years. Consideration will be given to women who have overcome adversity to do hard things and serve one’s community. Volunteering in the community is also important.

Explanation of award: The honorarium will be given to a senior attending a high school in Escondido who has participated in a variety of school activities and has demonstrated exemplary leadership and service throughout his or her high school years.

Entrepreneur and Unique Character

Explanation of award: The honorarium will be given to an entrepreneurial-minded senior attending a high school in Escondido who has participated in a variety of school activities and has demonstrated leadership throughout his or her high school years.

Explanation of award: The honorarium will be given to a senior attending a high school in Escondido who has participated in a variety of school activities and has demonstrated leadership throughout his or her high school years.

Community Philanthropists

Explanation of award: The honorarium will be given to a senior attending a high school in Escondido who has participated in a variety of school activities and has demonstrated active community engagement throughout his or her high school years.
