The Caiman football team capped off an historic 12-3 season with the 6AA state championship in mid-December. The team shut out their opponent, Santa Teresa High School (7-0), with the sole touchdown coming in the second quarter by sophomore Friday Pollard. The Caimans entered the CIF playoffs ranked #3 in D5 before defeating Vincent Memorial (6 seed), Escondido Charter (2 seed), and number one ranked Crawford High School for the team’s first-ever San Diego CIF Championship held at Escondido High School.
"We have a special group of kids and an incredible staff," stated Coach Josiah Cruz, "It takes a village to do things right and CAHS is a special village!"
The Caimans historic season of 12 wins and 3 losses came on the heals of only 1 win and 14 losses during the prior two seasons. This Caiman team broke records in number of points per game (29.2), points allowed (8.2) , shutouts (7), First Section Championship, and First State Championship which is the first time in 100 years that an Escondido school has earned this honor.
