Historic CIF Run: Stingray Wrestlers Set New Program Records

April 23, 2026

Coastal Academy High’s wrestling program celebrated a historic CIF postseason, with both girls and boys teams delivering record-setting performances. The girls placed 5th at CIF Division 4 with just six wrestlers, sending four to the finals, an unprecedented feat, including champion Izabella Contreras and two-time CIF champion Alethia Tolentino, who went on to become a three-time state qualifier and finish top 16 in California. The boys also made history, placing 4th out of 23 teams, the highest finish under Head Coach Mario Cornejo, with multiple podium finishes and five wrestlers advancing to Masters. Senior Adam Cornejo highlighted the run with a dramatic finals pin to claim a CIF title. At the same time, Nolan White made program history as the first boys wrestler to place at Masters, capping a breakthrough season for the Stingrays.
